Book Recap: Cold Kiss by Amy Garvey (ARC)

Cover Inspection:
The cover is fitting as
the book is about zombie and lots of kissing.
SUMMARY (book description based on GoodReads):
When her boyfriend, Danny, is killed in a car accident, Wren can’t imagine living without him. Wild with grief, she uses the untamed powers she’s inherited to bring him back. But the Danny who returns is just a shell of the boy she once loved.

Wren has spent four months keeping Danny hidden, while her life slowly unravels around her. Then Gabriel DeMarnes transfers to her school and somehow, inexplicably, he can sense her secret. Wren finds herself drawn to Gabriel, who is so much more alive than the ghost of the boy she loved. But Wren can’t turn her back on Danny or the choice she made for him—and she realizes she must find a way to make things right, even if it means breaking her own heart.

Amy Garvey’s transcendent teen debut is perfect for fans of Shiver and Beautiful Creatures. Wren’s unforgettable voice and story will stay with readers long after the last page is turned.

SETTING:
Modern day setting.

MAIN CHARACTERS:
The main character is Wren. She is some sort of a witch. However, her mother does not allow her and her sister to freely practice or use their powers. They aren't even allowed to speak of it. Wren was very much in love with her boyfriend Danny. Danny dies in a car crash however, and this destroyed Wren.

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT:
This book is very simple. The story about Wren, a high school girl with magical powers. It happened that her first boyfriend Danny dies in a car accident a few months earlier. Wren was devastated and just could not let Danny go. So what she did was research on some spells on how to bring Danny back. She was actually surprised that she was able to bring her dead boyfriend back from the dead. However, the undead Danny turned out different than the Danny that Wren loved. He was cold, blank, and... dead. The undead Danny is also very dependent of Wren that Wren could not do anything for herself anymore. She spent all of her time with undead Danny, and was already neglecting her family and friends. She was losing sleep and her grades are slipping. Enter Gabriel. Gabriel is a handsome new student that cannot seem to stop staring at Wren. There is a reason for this though. Gabriel can actually feel Wren's power, and can tell that Wren is hiding a deep, dark secret. Wren couldn't keep undead Danny a secret from Gabriel, so she eventually tells him all. With Gabriel's help, Wren must undo what she had done to undead Danny, and learn how to finally let go of her first love.

LOVE:
The book is a very simple story. It's not packed with details unlike the other paranormal books today. There is no overwhelming history about Wren's family, so it's pretty easy to grasp the story. This is probably why the book is relatively short. I also like the fact that the story tackles how tough it is when someone you love dies and how hard it is to let go. I loved the ending. Bittersweet.

NO LOVE:
I was overwhelmed by Wren. The book is loaded about her feelings and how much she blames herself for everything. I get that she probably feel guilty about bringing Danny back from the dead, but the book was basically a diary of her rants. I can only take so much.

FAVORITE CHARACTER:
I like Rosalie Lanvin. She's actually a minor character in the story. But I think her scene broke the monotony of the book.

FAVORITE LINE:
You wanna tell me about your undead Romeo in there?
MUSINGS:
The book was a bit boring for me actually. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. It was just okay. I don't really know why this is... maybe because out of all the paranormal creatures out there, zombies are my least favorite. They just don't do it for me. I have yet to find a zombie book that I like.

DOODLES:
Did not find a trailer for this.
