Guest Blogger: S.B. Sebrick, author of Decoy

Today's guest is S.B. Sebrick! Our guest for today spent most of his childhood and teen years living in Vancouver, Washington, but he's not Canadian. He also lived in Utah, New York and Argentina. He has a fascination with Epic Fantasy and have alot of books in mind for this genre before moving on to other ones. He spent years writing as a hobby and is taking his first steps towards a writing career by self-publishing “Decoy” as an E-Book. Some of his favorite works to read are Robert Jordan’s’ “Wheel of Time” Series and Brandon Sanderson’s “Mistborn Trilogy”. He loves the opportunity to create a completely different world and magic structure that I’ve only found fully explorable through writing fantasy. ***

Hey everyone! I’m S. B. Sebrick. I’ve just taken the self-publishing “plunge” and put my first book, Decoy, on the market for Nooks and Kindles everywhere. Here’s a bit about it so you know from the get-go if this novel is something you’d like.

Decoy is an Epic Fantasy adventure for young adults (and also the adults who like to feel young). It’s about Kaltor Stratagar and his fellow assassins-in-training, throwing their skills against a demon bent on consuming the nearest city. What his friends don’t know is that the power hidden within Kaltor is responsible for the demon’s release from its prison, and if he’s forced to use that power again, it could save the city… and cost him the lives of those closest to him.

Aside from the obvious conflict, this is a story about Kaltor coming of age. He must learn to trust, lead and forgive effectively, skills not often taught (or even considered useful) to royal assassins, or the city of Shaylis will be the first of many to fall in the face of the demon’s power.

So here’s a bit about me if you’re curious. I love the Calvin and Hobbs comics, as well as anything written by outdoor comedy writer Patrick F. McManus. I love movies and book series written with complexity. The interconnecting Harry Potter books are a great example, especially the last two.

Oddly enough, I got my first writing “high” in fifth grade during my math class. Weird huh? Turns out my teacher realized that his students didn’t care about numbers very much. Money on the other hand… you can probably guess where this is going.

We reviewed R. L. Stine’s potential earnings through his “Goosebumps” series. By the time we finished adding up his royalties, advances, and pay outs from his TV series and the like, I was seeing “$” in my eyes next to the word “writer”. Yes, I was young and naïve, but I attended my first writing conference at the age of 12 nonetheless.

When I got into my first writing group though, things started to get more serious. I was hired to write the memoirs for four recipients of the Women of Achievement award, which I figured was just easy money. What I didn’t count on was the awards presentation at the Hilton. Suddenly I was in the presence of the presidents of various colleges, businesses and even the mayor, all thanking my friend and I for our hard work on behalf of the winners. I didn’t even have a degree yet.

From then on I’ve failed to shake off the dream of making a career from my writing. I’m thankful for the chance to share this journey with you all and look forwards to hearing your remarks about Decoy on my blog, facebook and twitter, after you’ve had the chance to read it. Just look up S. B. Sebrick and you’ll find me.

Decoy
by S.B. Sebrick
The last few grueling years of training have served Kaltor well. He’s learned to harness the magic within his body, overcome a stronger opponent, avoid capture, and everything else an assassin-in-training needs to survive.
Or so he thought.
But when those they protect at an excavation site release a demon from the Abyss itself, Kaltor realizes just how poorly prepared they all are for what’s coming. Within a single night, their mining camp of one thousand people plummets to a couple hundred terrified survivors, the majority turned against each other by the demon’s potent abilities. Then she turns towards Shaylis, the largest city in the region, for the next stage of her plan.
In a constant battle of both steel and strategy Kaltor and his friends struggle to delay, deceive and defeat their opponent, who’s spent the last thousand years planning out every detail of her assault to perfection. As the number of casualties mounts and her final plan comes to light, Kaltor is left with only one option. He must draw on the secret power within himself, knowing if his true identity is discovered, his life and the fate of the world, will be changed forever.

On September 30th, S.B. Sebrick would again be visiting the blog for an author interview and a giveaway, so stay tuned!
