Book Recap: Incarnate by Jodi Meadows (ARC)

Cover Inspection:
The book cover is definitely attractive.
It's one of the prettiest I've seen.

SUMMARY (book description based on GoodReads):
NEWSOUL
Ana is new. For thousands of years in Range, a million souls have been reincarnated over and over, keeping their memories and experiences from previous lifetimes. When Ana was born, another soul vanished, and no one knows why.

NOSOUL
Even Ana’s own mother thinks she’s a nosoul, an omen of worse things to come, and has kept her away from society. To escape her seclusion and learn whether she’ll be reincarnated, Ana travels to the city of Heart, but its citizens are suspicious and afraid of what her presence means. When dragons and sylph attack the city, is Ana to blame?

HEART
Sam believes Ana’s new soul is good and worthwhile. When he stands up for her, their relationship blooms. But can he love someone who may live only once, and will Ana’s enemies—human and creature alike—let them be together? Ana needs to uncover the mistake that gave her someone else’s life, but will her quest threaten the peace of Heart and destroy the promise of reincarnation for all?

Jodi Meadows expertly weaves soul-deep romance, fantasy, and danger into an extraordinary tale of new life.

LOCATION/SETTING:
The story is set in a utopian society where everyone is reincarnated. There are also dragons and sylphs in this world.

MAIN CHARACTERS:
The main character is Ana. Ana was born a new soul (or a no soul) in a world where everyone is reincarnated. She is despised by all and is actually considered a threat. Being a new soul, everything is new to her, and she has this air of innocence around her. However, Ana is a bit self-centered. She can also be rude, and she blurts out things she would regret later on.

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT:
In this utopian story, all people are reincarnated. When Ciana died, everyone was expecting her soul to be reincarnated in Ana's body. But Ana was born with a new soul (or a no soul, as called by some). For this reason, Ana was considered an outcast in her society. She was despised by almost all, and is even considered a threat. Now that she's of age, Ana has decided to leave her town and move to the city to find out more about herself and why she was born with a new soul. Along her journey, she meets a boy named Sam. Like everyone, Sam's soul is old. But unlike everyone, Sam does not treat Ana like garbage. As Ana and Sam try to find out more about new souls, they eventually fall for each other. This fantasy book is a very unique tale of reincarnation, dragons, and sylphs.

LOVE:
I like the dragon and sylph lore in the story, most especially when they attacked the city. These creatures made the story unique. I also like how music plays a great part in the book. I love the idea that one can be immortalized through his art. A beautiful thought.

NO LOVE:
The first few chapters were terribly boring for me. I almost set the book aside. I also think that there was no connection between Ana and Sam. Their relationship was a bit odd for me. For example, Ana wore the Sam's "girl clothes" from his "past life." It's such a simple matter, but it does not sit well with me. Too weird. The sexual tension was forced. I did not feel it at all. I think this is because in my mind, Sam was "old." Sam treated Ana like a child, and it felt weird for them to be kissing.

FAVORITE CHARACTER:
Sam. He is unbelievably patient with Ana. He should be given an award for that.

FAVORITE LINE:
"If I only get one life, I don’t want to waste it by hesitating"
MUSINGS:
The main character annoyed me. I didn't like from the start. She's rude, especially to Sam who has been very kind to her. Ungrateful - that's what I think she is. The story was slow for me. I need action in the book I'm reading. If it weren't for the dragons and sylphs, I probably would have put this book down. At one point, I was skimming already. There were parts that I loved, but there were parts that I didn't like.
