Book Recap: Eternal Starling by Angela Corbett

Cover Inspection:
Now this is what I call COVER LOVE.
The color. The flower. So Charming.

SUMMARY (book description based on GoodReads):
A love so strong, even eternity can’t separate them.
Evie Starling has lived a relatively uneventful life hanging out with friends, gossiping about boys, and driving her 1966 Mustang. All of that changes when she moves to Gunnison, Colorado, to start college and meets two mysterious men.
For centuries, Alex Night and Emil Stone have yearned for Evie—but they each have their own reasons for wanting to be with her. When both men claim to be her soul mate and tell her about an unbelievable past, Evie learns that she’s not the person she thought she was. Soon, Evie finds herself in the middle of an age-old battle between the Amaranthine Society—the soul protectors, and the Daevos Resistance—the soul destroyers. With a past she doesn’t understand, and a future rife with danger, Evie has to decide who she can trust. But Alex and Emil aren’t the only ones who want Evie, and her soul is about to become the rope in an eternal tug-of-war.

LOCATION/SETTING:
Modern day Colorado. Three months before college starts.

MAIN CHARACTER:
Evie. Evie is starting college in three months, and she just moved in with her best friend. She's 5'9, and her clothes size is 12 or 14. She loves her 1966 GT Mustang, which she restored it with her father.

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT:
The story line is fairy simple. Evie meets a guy while hiking. His name is Alex. They have an immediate connection, and romance develops. But suddenly, Alex left her saying that its for her safety. After that, he met another guy named Emil. Evie is very suspicious of Emil as he seemed to be keeping secrets. As it turns out, the two guys are part of enemy groups - one belongs to the group protecting soulmates, the other belongs to the group destroying it.

LOVE:
I love the silly banter between Alex and Evie. I love that they annoy each other, but the reader can feel their amazing connection. Plus, they are funny together. It's just the first chapter and the sarcastic remarks between Evie and Alex are flying off the pages. I also love the fact that Evie asked Alex out. It's a very nice change - girls taking charge. And Alex... I LOVE Alex. He's sexy, protective, and witty. What comes out of his mouth alternates between sarcasm or sexual innuendo. But then there's Emil. At first I didn't like him. He just came on too strong. But as I got to know him, I can't help but fall in love with him too. Hence, this book has an amazing love triangle going on. I admit that there was a lot of instant connection in this book, and I usually despise them, but this time, it works. I think it's actually cute that the guys in this book do not waste time at all. They know what they want, and they know how to get it.

NO LOVE:
I didn't like the way Alex insisted that he always has to open doors for Evie. Evie is very independent, and doesn't need a guy opening doors for her. Plus, Alex and Evie didn't have a proper make out session as it not yet time. I wanted more one-on-one action between Alex and Evie.

FAVORITE CHARACTER:
I like Evie. This is one of the books where the heroine is my favorite. Evie is a take charge kind of girl. She's very independent and responsible. She doesn't need anyone taking care of her. She's adventurous and not scared of a little dirt.

FAVORITE LINE:
“Let’s bet on it.”
“Bet on what?” I asked, trying not to growl.
“I bet that today you’ll get in some sort of mess and need my help to get out of it,” he said with unwavering sureness.
“You’re on,” I said, determination ringing in my voice. “What are the terms?”
He gave me a slow stare from across the seat. “If I win, you come out with me next Saturday—no questions asked.”
MUSINGS:
The mystery in this book book is good. The boys are very cyptic - you will hold on to the book until you find out what they are and what they want from Evie. This book is full of secrets that I cannot wait to unearth in the sequel. The love triangle is very well done. Like Evie, you will be confused, and wouldn't be able to choose between two hot guys. The writing is good too! It's smooth and flowing. It's easy to read without sacrificing quality.
