Fill-in-The-Blanks Interview with A.G. Howard, author of Splintered

I am so honored (and excited!) to present today's guest! She's the author of SPLINTERED, a spinoff of Alice in Wonderland.

Please welcome Anita Howard!

About Anita

A.G. Howard is most at home when weaving the melancholy and macabre into settings and scenes, twisting the expected into the unexpected. She was inspired to write SPLINTERED while working at a school library. She always wondered what would’ve happened had the subtle creepiness of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland taken center stage, and she hopes her darker and funkier tribute to Carroll will inspire readers to seek out the stories that won her heart as a child.

A.G.’s pastimes are reading, rollerblading, gardening, and family vacations which often include impromptu side trips to 18th century graveyards or condemned schoolhouses to appease her overactive muse.

Her debut YA fantasy, SPLINTERED, a dark Alice in Wonderland spinoff, is slated for release *Fall 2012 by Amulet.

*Please note: SPLINTERED's official release date, January 1, 2013, is considered late fall 2012 season. SPLINTERED will be in the Fall 2012 catalogues and available for pre-order, so that season is posted on this profile and book lists.

Fill-in-The-Blanks Interview

Anita's answers are in RED.
  1. I am terrified of fill in the blank questions. *cough*
  2. I finished burning breakfast a while ago.
  3. Fantasy is tastier than reality because I almost never burn pretend meals.
  4. When I was a kid, I read Black Beauty over and over and over.... Merrylegs, FTW!
  5. When I am not sleeping, I am mostly awake.
  6. I stop rollerblading whenever I hit a park bench (there’s a true story in there somewhere…).
  7. True love could be waiting at the edge of a petal (there’s a story there, too).
  8. Kisses are nice when they’re chocolate and wrapped in foil.
  9. Ravens, writing desks, and riddles! Oh my!
  10. You know I am in love when I can’t stop watching Princess Bride and eating Godiva truffles.
  11. Creating stories comes with great responsibility because it’s a kind of power. However, readers have the REAL power.
  12. My next project is a TOP SEKRIT YA novel (and it’s good, creepy fun!). ;P

About Splintered

Splintered
Expected publication: January 1st 2013 by Amulet Books

This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.

When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.
