So, let's get on with the interview...

Welcome to The Fairytale Nerd Natasha! How are you today?
 I’m pretty good. =)

So for the first question, tell me about your book.
I would love to. Here is my publishers back of the book blurb:
Life can get pretty complicated for any seventeen-year-old girl, but for a home-schooled telepathic girl trying to survive in a prestigious private school in small-town Jonesborough, Tennessee, it can be maddening – especially when her telepathic father keeps eavesdropping on her thoughts!
Jaycie Lerner’s family isn’t the usual mom-dad-kid setup. Jaycie’s mom’s MIA, but Allison, her personal live-in ‘trainer,’ is more than a mom, with her own special abilities, like being able to lift cars and run incredibly fast. And Jaycie’s godfather John is more than persuasive – he can literally convince anyone to do anything.
As far as the rest of the world’s concerned, Jaycie’s on the outside looking in. The townsfolk love Jaycie’s pediatrician father, but she doesn’t fit in with ‘normal’ kids, and she doesn’t really want to. Most of her free time is spent training to keep her telekinetic and telepathic powers under control. But there’s one thing she can’t control – and that’s her feelings, especially when her best friend Matt is nearby. If only he knew what she was truly capable of...
Everything seems to be status quo for Jaycie until she receives a cryptic message from a stranger and meets a very unusual girl new to Jonesborough. Then all hell breaks loose!
Why fairies?
Well, I write primarily about super humans, however fairies are a very important part of this world. In Darwin’s Children, the Dey-Vah are a race of fairy guardian, evolved from angels. It is their responsibility to safeguard the new superhuman race. One doesn’t see much of them in the first book, but they play a much larger role in Unnatural Law.

What is the message (from your books) that you want to convey to your readers?
Darwin’s Children is full of super humans, vampires, fairies and even, angels. Still, despite all its paranormal and fantasy elements is a message about family. I’ve always felt that family is the most important thing in anyone’s life, and that is the ultimate message I hope to convey.

Where do you get your ideas for your books?
My ideas sort of just come to me. Usually in daydreams. When I’m not this lucky, I do a lot of brainstorming with my fiancé.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I write all my first drafts in sharpie marker. No idea why, but it seems to be the only way I can operate.

What was a time in your life when you felt really afraid?
When I was six or something I almost drowned, so that was pretty scary. Still, it did encourage me to learn how to swim =)

Who is your hero in real life? What about in books?
My father. My favorite book hero is Batman. =) You can’t go wrong with someone that is unbeatable.

Ripley's or Guinness?
Ripley’s

Apartment or dorm?
House =)

Viral epidemic or nuclear explosion?
Nuclear explosion… I must say, you’ve got me a little nervous ;)

Harry Potter or The Chronicles of Narnia?
Harry Potter. The Prisoner of Azkaban is one of my favorite books.

Fantasy or reality?
Fantasy, reality kind of sucks.

Blind or deaf?
Do I have to choose one?

Summer or winter?
Summer… I hate to be cold and I love the beach.

Christmas or Halloween?
Halloween. This way, people don’t look at me funny when I dress up in costumes… ;) No, but I love Halloween, especially now that I’m a mother. I love dressing up.

Ferrari or Lamborghini?
Lamborghini

What's your next project?
My next project is Unnatural Law, the second title in the Darwin’s Children Series. The title is set to release in September 2011.
Thank you Natasha!
