[Day Two of 31 Days] Giveaway + Author Interview: Megan Curd, author of Bridger

I have invited Megan Curd, author of Bridger to do an interview for 31 Days, and I am so happy she agreed! I have read Bridger, and I loved it! If you liked The Need Series by Carrie Jones, then I'm pretty sure you will love Bridger. My review will be posted in time for Megan's Bridger Blog Tour on October 30.

Really? You wanna know about me? Are you sure? ::inhales:: Okay, you asked for it. :)
I am a Northwestern College graduate who loves to write. I enjoy snowboarding, traveling, and spending time with my husband, family,
and friends. I’ve spent time in South America and Europe working with young adults and teens, as well as snowboarding the Alps. I enjoy exploring new things and will try anything once…which is why I have so many embarrassing stories to tell.
Music is a huge part of who I am. I will listen to practically anything. My moods change, so asking me what my favorite band is doesn’t work. It changes continuously. Right now I’d say it is probably The Black Keys and Iron & Wine, but that could change.
I sponsor a girl that I met while in Ecuador on a three month internship as a youth pastor, as well as a little boy from Ghana. You can see her to the left. If you are interested in sponsoring a child from Ecuador or anywhere else, you can visit the Children of Promise website.
My brother is one of my best friends ever. He’s a great guy. Sorry ladies, he’s taken. My sister-in-law is a great friend of mine and my nephew, Jason, rocks my world. My family is great and I love every one of them.
I have loved reading since I was old enough to have a book in my hands. Some of my favorite authors are J.K. Rowling, Dan Brown, Stephenie Meyer, and Rick Riordan.
In June I married my best friend, and we reside in Wisconsin...aka Cheese Haven, the Frozen Tundra, etc, etc. And yes, I do support the Packers, even though I've been imported from Ohio (GO BUCKEYES!). This July we are expecting our first child, so we're pretty excited about that. Life is about to get interesting. :) ***
You can find Megan on Twitter, Facebook, and her website.

So now for the interview...

Welcome to The Fairytale Nerd! how are you today?
I'm great! I'm honored to be here today!

So for the first question, tell me about your book.
BRIDGER is Ashlyn McVean's story. She really did tell the story, and continues to drive the sequel, TRAITOR, that's being written right now. In BRIDGER, Ashlyn discovers her family has a very long and somewhat dark past, which isn't all on the human side. She's learning to navigate the new discoveries, as well as getting to know a really cute guy with an Irish brogue. What more could you ask for? :)

Why fairies?
I actually wasn't sure what to write about, so I Googled "Cool Legends." The lore of Ireland captivated me immediately. I read up on a lot of different legends, and incorporated that into a new idea of my own: a Bridging race, someone who could go to the realms of the fae and still be human.

What is the message (from your books) that you want to convey to your readers?
I just want my readers to be able to jump into the world I've created and enjoy it. The big thing for me is giving a "real" YA experience. I've pulled a lot of things from personal experiences in high school and college and poured them into situations that are real. I want the romances, experiences and feelings to be true and raw. If I can't give my reader a book that they can identify with and say, "Hey, I've been there," even though it's fictional, then I shouldn't be writing. I want it to be known it's okay to feel those feelings.

If you had the chance to rewrite your book, would you change anything?
I'd slow the pacing down and make things more detailed. I think I've become a much stronger writer as I've written more, and I'd love to add more details to BRIDGER.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I can't focus solely on the manuscript when I'm writing usually. I'm doing 7 different things at once, like Twitter (oops) and Facebook, then I'll slip back into writing. If I try to make myself just stare at the manuscript, I go crazy.

What was the first fairy book you remember reading?
Honestly, I remember Tinkerbell in PETER PAN, but that's about it. I have the Melissa Marr WICKED LOVELY series that I want to start, so I'm hoping to get to them in the next month or so. I wanted to write about fairies because I wasn't well-versed in them, so I couldn't subconsciously pull from other writers' ideas.

What was a time in your life when you felt really happy?
When I held my son, Carter, for the first time. There is nothing that beats holding your child.

Who is your hero in real life? What about in books?
My hero, as cliche as it sounds, is my mom. My husband is a tie, as well. They're both so supportive of me. I don't know what I'd do without them. As for books, I'm going to go with Peeta from the HUNGER GAMES. That guy goes through so much and keeps on trucking. You have to appreciate the perseverance.

Bridger
by Megan Curd
Ashlyn McVean doesn't believe in fairy tales. That is, until Ashlyn is thrown into the crosshairs of grudges her grandmother created long ago. After finding out she is one of two people able to cross between faerie realms, Ashlyn is faced with trying to understand her abilities, along with navigating a new relationship with her boyfriend, Liam. As if being on a centuries old hit list and dealing with crazed pixies isn't enough, her new abilities mean trouble for Liam. Knowing her new life puts everyone she loves in danger, Ashlyn must decide what's most important in her life between friends, family, love, and ultimately, realms.

Megan is also giving away a eCopy of her fairy book Bridger! I'm telling you it's good, so fill out the Rafflecopter Form now for a chance to win!
