Book Recap: The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

Cover Inspection:
I am not a fan of dark book covers.
I like the dust jacket though.
I love that matte finish.

SUMMARY (book description based on GoodReads):
Mara Dyer doesn't think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there.
It can.
She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed.
There is.
She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love.
She's wrong.

LOCATION/SETTING:
Modern day New England. Then Mara's family moves to Florida.

MAIN CHARACTERS:
Mara Dyer is a middle child. Mara is also very witty. She has a good relationship with her siblings, especially her big brother. Her mother is very worried about her, sometimes to the point of obsession, and most of the time, it drives Mara insane. Her father is a lawyer, and is out most out the time. There was an accident. All her friends died, and she was the only one who survived. Mara does not have idea what happened. Now, she is having hallucinations, and the doctors say that she has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT:
Mara Dyer is a mystery. One day she wakes up in a hospital, and was informed by her family that her friends died in accident, and that she is the only one who survived. For this reason, she is having Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. So, to make things easier for Mara, her parents decided to move to Florida. This book is filled with Mara's hallucinations (or is it? hehe!). Both people and animals were found dead in town, and somehow Mara feels responsible for them. The story is about Mara's search for who she is, what is happening to her, and what truly happened that night her friends died.

LOVE:
The main characters in this book have sex without actually having sex. It is as if they are F@#King each other with conversations, glances, and a mere touch. To know what I mean, one must read The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. *whew* Noah Shaw, you are my new YA book crush. Your wit and charm make you sexy as hell. I love Noah's witty one liners. They are always infused with sexual innuendo. Another thing I like about this book is that one does not really know what is real and what is not. Now, that can be annoying at times, however it works for this particular book. Why? Because the reader would feel what Mara is feeling - confused.

NO LOVE:
I loved the book. I really, really, really enjoyed every word, every page. However, I think, if Noah is out of the picture or is removed from the story, I don't think I would like it as much. Discounting Noah's *ahem* manliness, virility, and sexiness, the book would just be all about Mara's hallucinations. And that would be kind of dull.

FAVORITE CHARACTER:
Noah Shaw. Oh heavens... Ladies, you will hyperventilate. Let's discuss Noah Shaw after you've read this book.

FAVORITE LINE:
“Have you kissed many boys before?" he asked quietly.
His question brought my mind back into focus. I raised an eyebrow. "Boys? That's an assumption."
Noah laughed, the sound low and husky. "Girls, then?"
MUSINGS:
This is a very sexy book without the sex. *Mind wanders off to Noah Shaw* Anyway, about the writing, I have to say I loved it. WITTY, that's what this book is. If you have a sharp tongue, love mocking people, and are a sarcastic person, then you will love Michelle Hodkin's one-liners in this book. I am amazed by how even a single word can be used as a retort. I love it! I love it! I love it! I'm sure I'll read The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer again and again!
