The story is set in Blackpool Cove, a coastal town in the 1800s. Blackpool is a small town where everyone knows everyone.

MAIN CHARACTER:
The protagonist is Beatrix Muldoon. Her family and friends call her Trixie. She lived with her grandparents at Blackpool Cove as she was an orphan. When she was little, her father's fishing boat has been lost at sea, and her mother died of a fever. Trixie has a gift - she can sense a person's character by mere touch. According to her, she has a sarcastic tongue. However, she is well-liked by the townsfolk as she is easy-going.

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT:
** spoilers ** This is a vampire story set in the 1800s. The story begins with a shipwreck in a small coast town called Blackpool Cove. At or about the same time as that shipwreck, a boy of eighteen, his father, and their minions moved into town. The town welcomed the newcomers with open arms until a girl went missing. It was later found out that the girl was buried alive. Suspicions arose. It happened that Trixie's grandmother has gypsy blood, and can sense bad luck and bad weather, and she has a feeling that the new comers are the ones responsible for the town's misfortune. Moreover, two other boys moved into town. One was named David, a young investigator. David's eye color are not the same, and has half a pinky finger. The other was named Beck. Beck is handsome, has a scar on his face, and an earring. He looks like a pirate. Trixie felt a connection with him, however, there is something very mysterious about him. He vanished in a blink of an eye. He seems to hear Trixie's screams when she was in danger. Trixie found out that Beck and the other newcomers are not humans. They are vampires. Except for Beck, the "bad vampires" feed on humans. Also, David is a dhampir, the half human, half vampire vampire hunter. Trixie found out that "bad vampires" and are actually the ones responsible for the shipwreck. They needed to feed and so they killed people, but made it appear that it was a shipwreck so no one would suspect. With the vampires in town, their small town is in grave danger. Now, Trixie, Beck, and David must do some serious vampire hunting to make their town safe again. ** spoilers end **

LOVE:
There are some seriously witty and funny lines in this book! I found myself smiling at some parts of the story. I especially loved the part when Trixie tried to test the theory that vampires have a counting obsession. (Reminds me of Count Dracula of Sesame Street!) She actually sprinkled seeds on the table just to see if Beck would count them. That part was so cute it easily became my favorite part of the book! I also love the friendship between Beck and David. I loved their friendly banter. I do think they have a complicated friendship - the vampire and the vampire hunter. Nevertheless, they remain good friends and would do anything to protect each other. And of course, the romance, this book contains some sweet, old-fashioned romance. There's nothing beyond little kisses, so this book is good even for young teens.

NO LOVE:
I would have to say that I did not like the middle part of the book. It was a bit dragging honestly. I wanted to browse through the pages. For me, there were too many talking and spying scenes. I wanted to see some vampire action. But that is just me. Maybe I just get bored easily. Some might see it as good suspense and world building in a book.

FAVORITE CHARACTER:
Trixie! I love her. She is actually someone I would love to be friends with. She is simple and easy going. She is independent, witty and sarcastic. Unlike other YA heroines, Trixie's sarcasm is not bordering on "rude." She also loves her grandparents and would do anything for them.

FAVORITE LINE:

A sparkle gleamed in Beck's dark eyes. "Trixie, are you trying to get me to count those seeds?"

MUSINGS:
Honestly, I am sick of vampires! There are just too many books about them already! When I found out that this book is about vampires, I didn't feel like reading it anymore. Good thing I continued reading it! The book is light and fun. There is actually none of those gory bloodsucking scenes, unless you count the part where Beck was feeding on the birds. The writing is not choppy, and the the story transition is very smooth. This is my first Tess Oliver book, and I will definitely read her other books.

LOCATION/SETTING:
The story is initially set on a mountaintop, a place where mountain-dwelling sylphs or air elementals live. Imagine living in a cloud. These air spirits make rain, throw clouds, breathe vapors, and form rainbows. Then the setting shifts to modern day New York City after the main character decides that she wants to be human.

MAIN CHARACTER:
Aeris is the main character of the story. She is basically an air elemental. Even among her kind, she is considered an exceptional beauty. The women envy her, and the men desire her, even their king. (So when she transformed into a human, you can probably guess how beautiful she became!) Aeris is not mated with anyone because she has not found the right one yet. Then one day, Aeris sees Daniel, a handsome twenty year old NYU student, who was camping with his girlfriend. And Aeris realizes she would risk everything to be with Daniel. Ah! Daniel… I love that you have that piggy collection. Daniel is basically everything a girl would need in a friend, and would want in a boyfriend. He is sweet, protective, and romantic. And he cooks too!

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT: 
Aeris is the narrator of the story. As said earlier, the day she laid her eyes on Daniel, she fell in love with him. At first, she was debating with herself whether she wanted to give up being an air spirit for a man she does not even know. Like most first loves, the feeling just got too strong, and Aeris just had to be with the guy, and decided to be human, regardless of whether or not the guy will love her back. Taking such a risk, she went to Gob, the king of the earth spirits, to take this potion that will make her human. Entering the human world, she was guided by other former elementals, pointing to her where NYU is, guiding her on how to act human, and helping her find the guy named Daniel. Eventually, she finds him. Now this is where the funny parts start! Aeris, now a human renamed Alice Ayre, is basically "Ariel with the fork" from Disney's The Little Mermaid. Who knew being human is so difficult? It cannot be denied that there is an instant connection with Daniel, but he is currently in a relationship, and the girl is a bee with an itch from hell. Not only that, Paralda, the king of the air spirits is after Alice as her transformation is against his laws, and now she's being hunted too! As to the love story… yes, this book is one of those instalove relationships, but it works this time! At first, Daniel seemed reserved, but once he was out of his ex-girlfriend’s reach, he couldn’t keep his hands off Alice! The two are just so passionate about each other; some of their scenes may be considered too hot for YA.

LOVE:
This book grabbed me from page one, and held me steady until I reached the last page! It didn't feel like I was reading an indie book! Smooth-flowing story line, vivid descriptions, well-formed characters. Amazing!(Although I am very intrigued by Terra, and I would love to read more about him! What can I say, I'm a sucker for supernatural boys!) The author beautifully described the place where air elementals live, how they form clouds and make rainbows for fun. It made me want to go there and be one myself! And I love that this book tackled diversity - in sexual orientation, in race, even in tastes in art and hobbies. The author did not hold back on some of the realities that today’s youth are facing.

NO LOVE:
I didn't like Alice. Don't get me wrong here, I love the book! It's just that I preferred Aeris over Alice. I like Alice better when she was still not human because at that time, she was independent and didn't need anyone to protect her. Now after her transformation, she became this damsel in distress, always in need of saving!

FAVORITE CHARACTERS:
I love love, love, love Dante and Shane (Daniel's gay friends). Dante helped Alice shop for clothes, and Shane taught Alice how to read. They are just so nice and accommodating and helpful with Alice that it is just so hard not to like them! Somehow, they made everything a little bit more bearable for Alice.

FAVORITE LINE:

I’m forty-four cycles of the moon.

** Referring to Alice’s age. What does this even mean?! Haha! So cool! **

MUSINGS:
This book is much like The Little Mermaid, and is a complete opposite of what YA books are all about. Instead of wanting to be a supernatural, the main character wants to be human. And that transition from being an air elemental to being human is definitely my favorite part of the book. It’s so funny, I found myself laughing from time to time! However, this book is definitely not for very young teens as it deals with rape, unprotected sex, some drinking, and a mention of marijuana. The characters of the book are college students living in New York, and are very much independent.

DOODLES:
Watch out for the book trailer! They are still filming it!

LOCATION:
Who knows?! This is dystopian fiction. All I remember is that the place where the main character lived in is dusty and all dried up, like the Sahara. But then, there is a frequent change of the location in the book because the main character travels so much in search for her twin brother.

MAIN CHARACTERS:
Of course there is Saba. She is amazing in every way. At first she was this girl always trailing behind her brother. She made a complete turn-around at the end of the book. There's Jack, the love interest. Jack is secretive, resourceful, protective, and insanely hot. I loved that he lets Saba do her thing, gives her the freedom to be whatever she needs to be, and is isn't threatened by it. He loves the fact that Saba is a strong giril. The relationship between Saba and Jack is confusing, though. There was a part in the book when Jack was pining for Saba. Then a few chapters more, Jack hated Saba. Forward a few more chapters, Saba was kissing Jack. Gives life to the status, "it's complicated."

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT:
Long story short, Saba goes through scary things to look for her brother, who was kidnapped by the Horsemen. The character went through some sort of slavery / gladiator / refugee kind of thing in the book.

LOVE:
I loved it when the woman shaved Saba's hair to prepare her to be some sort of girl gladiator. From that point, Saba's character changed. She became stronger and more determined to find her brother Lugh. Her character transformed from being a mere follower to a respected leader.

NO LOVE:
The way the book was written. If it weren't for the delicious story, I would have stopped reading at page one. But that's the thing! The story is just so damned good, you won't be able to stop.

FAVORITE CHARACTER:
I like Saba. She is just so determined, it's inspiring. I actually want to be her sometimes. She reminds me of Katniss, but Jack (oh, Jack!) is sure no Peeta.

FAVORITE LINE:
Oh I’m warm blooded. Jack grins. Anyways, Saba likes to look at my bare chest.
Lugh looks at me. Frowns. Is that a fact? he says.


MUSINGS:
Again, I hated the way the story was written. There were a lot of time when I just had to read passages several times just to get through all that wrong grammar and spelling. Eyesore galore. And again, the book is really engaging. It's somehow similar to the Hunger Games in that Saba is like Katniss - girl power through and through. They are also in the midst of oppression by their King (who, for some reason was depicted as King Louis XIV of France).
