Book Recap: Obsidian by Jennifer Armentrout (ARC)

Cover Inspection:
Yes. Daemon. That's exactly how I pictured him.

SUMMARY (book description based on GoodReads):
Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring…. until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I’m getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don’t kill him first, that is.

LOCATION/SETTING:
Katy moved to West Virginia with her mother. Modern day setting.

MAIN CHARACTERS:
Katy, a 4.0 average student. Follows the rules. Loves reading. Blogs about books. (Yes, the number of blog followers matter to her too!) She's basically THE good girl. Completely boring. Oh yes... she also loves gardening.

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT:
Katy transferred to west Virginia with her mother to start a new life. Her mother convinces her to befriend their new neighbors as she found out that the neighbors are about Katy's age. Hot too! Katy, being the good girl that she is, complied with her mother's request. But the neighbor named Daemon turned out to be the biggest a$hole on earth. However, when she was in town, she was attacked by some guy, Daemon saved her. She finds out eventually that Daemon an alien, and that he left a "mark" on her due to the use of his powers. Now Katy must stay with Daemon until this mark fades.

LOVE:
I was just on the first chapter and I was already laughing the life out of me. Only Jennifer Armentrout can do that. This book was unbelievably addicting. Usually, I finish a book in one day. I have other things to do that I consider more important. But I finished this book in 5 hours straight. I just could not let go of it. At that time, Daemon and Katy became the center of my world. Their banter is just so funny and witty and sarcastic, that I just can't get enough. And hours after I finished the book, I find myself thinking (or swooning, even) about a certain alien with hypnotic green eyes. There's not much kissing in this book - a few scenes. But the sexual tension between the main characters is undeniable. Their chemistry is sizzling even when they are fighting and shouting at each other. I also love the fact that Daemon is very protective of Dee (Daemon's sister). Dee is the only one he has in his life, and he would gladly give up his life to protect her. I love Dee too! She's friendly and bubbly, and it's not a surprise that she instantly became Katy's best friend. I also love the whole "alien marking" thing, and something new to me and I want to know more about it.

NO LOVE:
Daemon - that obnoxious a$$hole. I hated him most of the time. He was mean to Katy. But then again, I love him for it. Am I confusing you now?

FAVORITE CHARACTER:
My letter to the hottest alien on earth:

Dear Daemon,
Oh Daemon! I don't know what I feel about you. Sometimes I dislike you, sometimes I like you. But most of the time I despise you. But then you smile your sexy smile and you walk around half naked and let me ogle at your sculpted body, and my anger just... fades away. You charm me with sarcasm. You protect me with your life. You exhaust me, and I love you for it. I'm yours.
Always and forever, JoAnne

FAVORITE LINE:
“Beautiful face. Beautiful body. Horrible attitude. It was the holy trinity of hot boys.”
MUSINGS:
This is the first alien book I have ever read. (Nope, I haven't read I Am Number Four, and I have no plans on picking it up.) This book changed my notion that aliens cannot be sexy. In fact, they can be the sexiest creatures in the YA book world, and Daemon is on top of this "sexy" list.

DOODLES:
none yet

SIMILAR READS:
This is the first alien book I've ever read, so I can't really recommend anything that is similar. But with respect to the romantic chemistry, I would say that Obsidian's romance element may be likened to that of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer.
