[Day Twenty Three of 31 Days] Author Interview: Parrisha Martelly, author of Fox

Hi guys! Today, Parissha Martelly is visiting The Fairytale Nerd for an author interview. Parissha is the author of Fox.

Hello! My name is Parrisha Martelly, and I am a 21-year-old college student studying biology at a university in southern California. I am an avid lover of fantasy, chick-lit, historical romance, and African American fiction. When I'm not writing short stories and novels, I am spending time with my family, going to concerts, and exploring California.

Welcome to The Fairytale Nerd! how are you today?
I am wonderful! Thank you for asking! :)

Tell me about your book.
Every year, Pandora's Box calls out to one corrupted being on the planet and drives its victim, named the Chosen, to insanity until they open the box. If they don't open it by January 1st of the next year, they die. Fox centers around a group called The House of Lords, whose job is to protect this artifact from the Chosen who seek to open it. In the story, this year’s Chosen has captured the Leader of The House of Lords, and his daughter, Fox, goes on a journey to find him. On their journey, they encounter many things, including fairies.

Why fairies?
There is something absolutely mystical and whimsical about fairies. They are delicate, beautiful, agile, and graceful. There is something wonderful about them that captivates people.

What is the message (from your books) that you want to convey to your readers?
I suppose there are several messages, but I think the main message would be that you should accept yourself for exactly who you are, and accept your destiny.

Where do you get your ideas for your books?
I wish I could tell you. Honestly, they come out of nowhere. I just sit around thinking sometimes, and an idea forms. Names of characters or places, however, sometimes stem from places in my everyday life.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?
I write in both notebooks and on the computer. It can get kind of confusing, because sometimes I’ll start writing a scene on the computer, only to realize I’ve already written it in a notebook. haha I have notebooks that literally look like chicken scratch because they have been absolutely annihilated!

What is your most treasured possession?
A necklace that my grandmother left for me before she died.

What was a time in your life when you felt really afraid?
When I was undiagnosed with Crohn’s disease. When they finally figured out what was wrong, it was a relief.

Who is your hero in real life? What about in books?
My mom and my uncle are probably my real life heros and inspirations. In my books, I like Fox because she is her own hero. And I love Falcon. :)

The one who loves you or the one you love?
Wow! This question is a hard one. I’m going to say the one who loves me.... but really, I’m not sure. haha

Batman or Superman?
Superman.

Math or science?
Science! (I’m a biology major, so I’m probably biased haha)

Viral epidemic or nuclear explosion?
Viral epidemic. At least there is a chance that it can be contained.

Harry Potter or The Chronicles of Narnia?
I love The Chronicles of Narnia, but I’m going with Harry Potter on this one!

Fantasy or reality?
Fantasy.

Blind or deaf?
Deaf.

Summer or winter?
Winter. :) I live in California, so I get summer weather all the time. lol

Christmas or Halloween?
This one is tough! I’m going to say Christmas.

Ferrari or Lamborghini?
Lamborghini.

What's your next project?
I’m currently working on Book 2 in The Vendetta Series, and a short story set in a world exclusively of Fairies!

A wind whips through the trees, carrying with it the call of Pandora’s Box. It will choose one victim, as it does every year, and beckon its quarry to open it. He will have one year to find the box. Or die.
Twenty-year-old Fox is heir to the House of Lords, a group dedicated to protecting Pandora’s Box from the chosen who seek to open it. When the new chosen kidnaps her father, Fox rushes to find him.
Joined by her best friend Onyx and the mysterious Falcon, her journey leads her to a strange silver-haired man, the ethereal Fae, and what may be her first, and only, chance at love. Fox ultimately learns she must fulfill her long-awaited destiny sooner than planned.
