Author Interview: Jus Accardo, author of Touch

Hey guys! Today, Jus Accardo, author of TOUCH, is visiting the blog today! I would say that Touch one of those books that is really difficult to put down, and is constantly on your mind when you stop reading it. Read my review HERE. The second book, TOXIC will be released on May 1st.

Jus Accardo is the author of YA paranormal romance and urban fantasy fiction.
A native New Yorker, she lives in the middle of nowhere with her husband, three dogs, and sometimes guard bear, Oswald.
Her first book, Touch, is due out in November 2011 from Entangled Publishing. She is represented by Kevan Lyon of Marsal Lyon Literary Agency.

No on to the interview...

Which words or phrases did you most overuse in your book?
There were a few and they totally weren't what I expected... Just was a big one. So was Around. As far as phrases...in the first draft there was a LOT of nodding. He nodded. She nodded. They nodded... I swear when someone pointed it out I was like, WOW They're all bobbleheads!

If you could change one character in Touch, who would it be? Why?
Hmm... I'm not sure there's anyone I would want to change. There was a character that got cut though. Kami, Curd's sister. If I could, I'd go back and find a way to fit her back in!

What music were you listening to when you were writing Touch?
A lot of Powerman 500 (since they're Dez fave. Spider One is totally Dez's celebrity crush!) Some Pink and Black Lab. There was a lot of music with attitude. You can find the full playlist for TOUCH here :http://www.jusaccardo.com/books/

What is the message from Touch that you want to convey to your readers?
Fight for what you believe in. Sure Kale is a hottie, but Dez starts out helping him not because she likes him, but because she feels it's the right thing to do.

The one who loves you or the one you love?
The one I love. Totally.

Viral epidemic or nuclear explosion?
Nuclear all the way. I'm a big baby. I'd want it to be fast and painless. :D

I find Kale's innocence refreshing. Tell me what makes him laugh out loud. Where does he go when he's angry?
Kale is still learning what life is like on the outside. He finds most of the things people do funny because he doesn't understand them. As for when he's angry, he thinks of Dez. She's his peace. At the end of Feb, a novella (UNTOUCHED) is coming out in Kale's POV. Seeing things from his perspective was a blast. We find out some of his personality quirks--likes and dislikes--and really get to see what makes him tick :)

What is on Deznee's bedside table right now? On her bedroom floor? In her trash can?
On her table you'd probably find an empty coffee cup or two. Probably several Powerman 5000 CDs, and her cell phone--that is, if she hasn't lost it again. Her floor is pretty uncluttered. A few pairs of shoes, a sock or two under the bed... In her trash? A lot of coffee flavored candy wrappers ;)

Touch
by Jus Accardo
When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.

Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.

Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.

A secret Kale will kill to protect.
