Moon Spell by Samantha Young

Cover Inspection:
Could be better. The girl is pretty though.

SUMMARY (book description based on GoodReads):
Existing in the shadows of our world are supernatural races; children blessed by the ancient Greek gods with unimaginable gifts, and at present they are fighting a two thousand year old war with one another. Into this war Caia Ribeiro is born...

Caia has lived a life shrouded in mystery, isolated from her lykan pack and the supernatural world she belongs to. At seventeen years old it comes as a shock to be uprooted from her dull life playing human and plunged back into pack life. Returning to her world is not an easy one. It comes with the threat of the global underworld war, pack politics, and an impossible attraction to her overprotective Alpha, Lucien. It is also an extraordinary and addictive world, a place she feels she may actually belong. If only Caia could get past the feeling that Lucien and the pack were keeping secrets from her. Dangerous secrets about her heritage and the war. In the end… unforgiveable secrets.

Forgiven or not, when an old enemy resumes his deadly pursuit of Pack Errante, they will need Caia to come to terms with the truth in order to help save them from their powerful adversary.

YA Paranormal Romance for mature teens+ (some content may not be suitable for younger readers).

SETTING:
Modern setting. The story is set on a mountainous region / forest so that the wolf pack can freely run around.

MAIN CHARACTERS:
This is the story of Caia. All her life, she thought she was a wolf. Well, she is, but she is also something more. Wow, I just realized this book is really not that original. Then of course, there is the lust object, Lucien. The Alpha. Lucien is several years older than Caia, and is actually conflicted about being insanely attracted to an immature teenager. Nevertheless, he feels protective of Caia. Then there's Sebastian, the other wolf trying to win Caia's affections. Closer to Caia's age. Not an Alpha. Not even a Beta. But sweet to the core. The book is told partly in Lucien's point of view so, clearly, there is no "team Gale, team Peeta" competition here.

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT:
At the beginning of the story, Caia was already an orpan - her parents died when she was only about seven years old, and so she basically has no one. She initially lived with some sort of family friend, but when she turned eighteen, she had to live with the wolf pack again. The story is about her integration with the wolf pack, and discovery and acceptance of her true self. It's about Caia learning to harness her great powers, and how she can use it to save those that she cares about. There is actually a healthy blend of friendship, action, and romance in this book.

LOVE:
I love Sebastian. So sweet. I loved it when Caia borrowed his shirt, and Lucien actually sensed the difference in how Caia smells. I don't want to give anything away, really.

NO LOVE:
**BIG spoiler** I didn't like that Caia and Jaeden's friendship did not "mature" first. It was only two weeks after Caia's arrival, when Jaeden was kidnapped / switched. I mean, you cannot really call someone your best friend when you don't know the person.

FAVORITE CHARACTER:
My favorite is Sebastian. I think he honestly loves Caia. He would face his Alpha for her.

FAVORITE LINE:
"She doesn't need you checking her wound. You're not her mate."
Sebastian smirked. "Well, neither are you, apparently."

MUSINGS:
Moon Spell is the first book in a trilogy. The book did not actually end the I want it to, so I would probably read the second book, River Cast.

DOODLES:
**video might contain spoilers**
