SUMMARY (book description based on GoodReads):
The boy who follows death meets the girl who could cause the apocalypse.
Krishani thinks he’s doomed until he meets Kaliel, the one girl on the island of Avristar who isn’t afraid of him. She’s unlike the other girls, she swims with merfolk, talks to trees and blooms flowers with her touch. What he doesn’t know is that she’s a flame, one of nine individually hand crafted weapons, hidden in the body of a seemingly harmless girl.
Nobody has fallen in love with a flame until now. She becomes Krishani’s refuge from the dreams of death and the weather abilities he can’t control. Striking down thousand year old trees with lightning isn’t something he tries to do, it just happens. When the Ferryman dies, Krishani knows that he’s the next and that a lifetime of following death is his destiny.
And Kaliel can’t come with him. The Valtanyana are hunting the flames, the safest place for her is Avristar. Krishani can’t bear to leave her, and one innocent mistake grants the Valtanyana access to their mystical island. They’re coming for Kaliel, and they won’t stop until every last living creature on Avristar is dead. She has to choose, hide, face them, or awaken the flame and potentially destroy herself.

LOCATION/SETTING:
The story is set in a place called Avristar.

MAIN CHARACTERS:
The main characters in this book are Kaliel and Krishani. Kaliel is very spirited, at times hard-headed and her elder find her difficult to control. She has white hair and is the one depicted in the book cover. Krishani, on the other hand, his part of the Brotherhood of Amersil, and has mismatched eyes. Krishani feels as if he does not fit in the Brotherhood. Both Kaliel and Krishani feel that they are always disappointing their elders. They are lost, and in search for their true purpose.

WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT:
Kaliel and Krishani meet while Kaliel was swimming with the merfolk. This first encounter was very quick, but after that, the two cannot seem to take their minds off each other. Then they separated ways, and went on with their lives. Both may be considered failures in their societies. They can't seem to please their elders. The two would meet again after more than a year when they are sent away to train their powers. Kaliel soon finds out she's a flame and Krishani is a ferryman. The two are not supposed to fall in love as they must marry the land, but they did fall in love. And now, they are torn between duty and love.

LOVE:
I love the author's descriptions. It's vivid, but not overly descriptive. It's not suffocating. The writing is very beautiful and smooth. The world created by the author is very original. I've read nothing like it. The romance between Krishani and Kaliel is very, very sweet and delicate. It has the right amount of love and lust. This is one of those books where an instant romance between the characters work.

NO LOVE:
I found the book quite hard to get into. It was very slow at the beginning. Also, I am one of those readers who would like to be familiar with every nook and cranny of the book, and I found this hard to do because of the names of characters, things, and places in the book. There are too many important elements of the story that must be remembered for the reader to fully understand the story. It can be a little confusing.

FAVORITE CHARACTER:
The Great Oak. Well... it's not actually a character because it's a tree. But the Great Oak is central to the story as it lays down the future of Kaliel and Krishani. I don't know if there is a hidden meaning behind the Great Oak, but it has a presence that completely affects the characters in the story.

FAVORITE LINE:
"... she belonged to him, belonged with him, and she wouldn't let that go."
MUSINGS:
The book is definitely not a light read. The book is deep, and filled with messages such as love, choices, and destiny.

DOODLES:
Deleted Scene: Hot Like Wow Tower Scene
Deleted Scene: Crazy Disturbing Torture Scene
Alternate Ending
