I could have gone with the easy option of introducing you to my main character, Charlie Blake, but I want to leave him a mystery for now and allow you to get to know him on your terms, so you can be the judge of his character. So, I'd like to tell you about a character I love just as much as Charlie. Meet Derkein Odessa from my young adult fantasy novel,Talisman Of El, which releases May 20 from Centrinian Publishing Ltd.

What does the name Derkein mean?
Derkein is pronounced "Der - K-eye-n". Derkein is derived from a Greek word, which gave the English word "dragon". It also means "sharp-sighted one".

What does Derkein do for a living?
Having dropped out of Harvard Law School, Derkein pursued a career in photography. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, Derkein now spends most of his time trying to stay alive.

Where does Derkein live?
Derkein was born and raised in Long Island, New York.

Who are Derkein's parents?
Derkein's parents are millionaire architect, George Odessa, and painter, Catherine Odessa. George was born in England, UK where he spent most of his childhood before moving to the US in his early twenties where he met Catherine, who sadly succumbed to cancer and died in 2008 at the age of 44.

Does Derkein have a love interest?
He sure does, but he wouldn't admit it. Her name happens to be Terra, and she's tall, slim and drop dead gorgeous. Terra is someone Derkein regards as way out of his league, and not merely because of her looks. No. The problem: Terra isn't human.

Does Derkein have any special powers?
Derkein wouldn't quite call what he has a power. A curse, perhaps, but not a power - not one he can control, anyway. This curse has quite an effect on Derkein's appearance, which renders it somewhat difficult to describe what he looks like. In short, it would be pointless to take a picture of Derkein in his current state because you'll be wondering two days later if you had taken a picture of a complete stranger.
