The Nerd's Word #5: Waiting On Origin by Jessica Khoury + Swooning Over Otherkin by Nina Berry

"Waiting On" / On My Wishlist:

A book I cannot wait to get my hands on.
hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine & Book Chick City

Origin

Expected publication: September 4th 2012 by Razorbill
Pia has grown up in a secret laboratory hidden deep in the Amazon rain forest. She was raised by a team of scientists who have created her to be the start of a new immortal race. But on the night of her seventeenth birthday, Pia discovers a hole in the electric fence that surrounds her sterile home—and sneaks outside the compound for the first time in her life.
Free in the jungle, Pia meets Eio, a boy from a nearby village. Together, they embark on a race against time to discover the truth about Pia’s origin—a truth with deadly consequences that will change their lives forever.
Origin is a beautifully told, shocking new way to look at an age-old desire: to live forever, no matter the cost. This is a supremely compelling debut novel that blends the awakening romance of Matched with the mystery and jungle conspiracy of Lost.
I haven't read a book that is set in the Amazon rain forest. So this would be the first. Plus, I recently realized (LOL!) that I am a fan of YA SciFi books, and engineering an immortal race sounds perfect. And look at that cover? isn't it gorgeous? It actually reminds of Eve in the Garden of Eden.

What are you waiting on?

Swoon:

Lines and/or scenes from a book that made me swoon.
hosted by the girls at YA Bound

This swoon is from an advance copy of Otherkin (Otherkin #1) by Nina Berry

Twitter Version (140 Characters of Less):
“Of all the things I’ve stolen,” he said, low and intimate,
“I think that kiss was my favorite.”

Extended Version:
Caleb. I would have recognized his scent and the sound of his breathing anywhere. I felt his hand warm on my arm, pulling me up against him before I could protest. Something brushed the blindfold over my eyes, and the silk of his blindfold slid against my skin as his lips touched mine. My heart contracted, and I responded until my brain kicked in and I pushed against his chest.
“Of all the things I’ve stolen,” he said, low and intimate,
“I think that kiss was my favorite.”
“What do you want from me?” I was still shoving against him, but not with very much strength. His arms were encircling my waist, and a delicious warmth was taking me over.
“I want just a moment with you,” he murmured. “Just one.” And kissed me again.
