That Tuesday Thingy #21: A Teaser from Splintered by A.G. Howard + Top Ten Series I Haven't Finished

Teaser Tuesday:

Teasers from the book I am reading.
hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading

Splintered
Expected publication: January 1st 2013 by Amulet Books

“Figured they’d put you in a hat,” I tease.

“Nah. Those are reserved for worms with wings.” I laugh and nudge his shoulders, unspoken permission to put me down.

He sets me onto the floor. “You look amazing.”

The teaser comes from an advance copy. The final copy may contain some changes.

Top Ten Tuesday:

hosted by The Broke & The Bookish

Top Ten Series I Haven't Finished
  1. The Vampire Diaries Series by L.J. Smith. Stopped at book 3. Although I am a huge fan of the TV series, I found the books lacking and ordinary. This is probably because I have read so many fang books that it feels like one is merely a copy of all the others. It seemed repetitive. And this series just wont end...
  2. Delirium Series by Lauren Oliver. Stopped at book 1. I am truly sorry to all you Oliver fans out there. I was so bored with Delirium that I found myself skimming just so I could finish the story. Skimming is not good.
  3. Hush, Hush Series by Becca Fitzpatrick. Stopped at book 2. Again, I am sorry if you are a Fitzpatrick fan. While I think that Patch is one of the hottest literary boys ever, the plot just didn't do it for me. This is probably due to my aversion to angel stories.
  4. Chicagoland Vampires by Chloe Neill. Stopped at book 3. I like this series, actually. The plot was very entertaining, and the characters are likable. But somehow, I lost interest in the story. Probably because I found out that a fourth and fifth book was going to be released. So, I lost the love.
  5. Evermore Series by Alyson Noel. Stopped at book 1. I never really liked reincarnation stories. I have yet to find a reincarnation book that I like.
  6. Wings Series by Aprilynne Pike. Stopped at book 2. Ugh. Laurel annoys me.
  7. Théâtre Illuminata Series by Lisa Manchev. Stopped at book 2. It feels like a middle grade read.
  8. Drake Chronicles by Alyxandra Harvey. Stopped at book 2. Another vampire series. (But this is actually one of the better ones.)
  9. Dead Beautiful Series by Yvonne Woon. Stopped at book 1. I didn't like the story. Not really a fan of Zombies and the like.
  10. Fallen Series by Lauren Kate. Stopped at book 1. Fallen is one of those books where I am still figuring out why it's so popular.
And before I say ta ta, let me just say that I am a firm believer that a series should have an ending. I applaud authors who put an end to their stories. Just because the first few books are so popular, it does not mean that it should go on indefinitely. It doesn't matter how a story ends - happy ending, heartbreaking ending, or a bittersweet ending. Like all things, good stories must come to an end.

That Tuesday Thingy #20: A Teaser from Toxic by Jus Accardo + Top Ten Bookish People You Want To Meet

Teaser Tuesday:
Teasers from the book I am reading.
hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading

Expected publication: October 2nd 2012 by Entangled Teen

“Of course you will. But you said it was fun. I’d like to try.”

The teaser comes from an avance copy of Toxic. The final copy may contain changes.

Top Ten Bookish People You Want To Meet

One. Jane Austen
I would like to ask her what she thinks of all the adaptations and retellings of her love stories.

Two. John Green
One of my favorite authors...

Three. Cassandra Clare
Who wouldn't want to meet the creator of Jace???

Four. Mario Puzo, author of The Godfather
I would like to ask him where he gets all his mafia ideas. Are they based on an experience or something?

Five. Wendy of A Cupcake & A Latte Book Blog
She suddenly disappeard. I just realized this when I stopped receiving her blog updates on my RSS feed. I kind of miss her blog and her quality reviews.

Six. Sarah J. Mass, author of Throne of Glass
If you have read Throne of Glass, then you would want to meet its author too!

Seven and Eight. Suzanne Collins and Stephanie Meyer
I sometimes think about what they think of movie adaptations of their works. For sure, they are thrilled to see their characters on the big screen, but I sometimes wonder what parts of the movie they would change.

Nine. Colleen Houck, author of The Tiger Saga
There are no words to express just how much I adore her Tiger Series. Each book is set in an exotic place, and heaven knows how much I love those kinds of books. Plus, the romance is sweet and sexy in a completely un-steamy way.

Ten. Francine Pascal
I was a Sweet Valley girl way back... then. The Sweet Valley books introduced me into the world of reading without being forced to. My love for reading (non-academic books, at least) is all due to Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield.

‘And you go all barefoot and primitive when you’re up there in the mountains with your feral cousins,’ he said.

That Tuesday Thingy #15: A Teaser from Losing Lila by Sarah Alderson + Top Ten Book Romances That Would Make It In The Real World

Teaser Tuesday:

Teasers from the book I am reading.

Losing Lila (Lila #2)

‘Please, just let it go,’ I hissed.

‘Let what go?’ Jack asked innocently.

‘You know what! This thing about Alex and me. It’s nothing to do with you.’

‘You’re my sister,’ Jack growled. ‘He’s my best friend. And he brought you back here. I’m going to kill him. He should have been looking out for you, not . . .’ he struggled to find an appropriate word, ‘doing whatever the hell he was doing with you.’

Top Ten Book Romances That Would Make It In The Real World

Oh, this one hard! In my opinion, literary romances / couples shouldn't be idealized or considered as the "proper relationship" because they are merely creatures of the mind. They set an unrealistic standard that one should never expect in real relationships. For this reason, I don't believe there are book couples that would make it in the real world.

There are, however, some literary relationships which I believe have ingredients that are necessary for a real relationship.

I can only think of three...

Scarlet
“Rob, did you hear about Scar’s new lover?” John crowed.

Rob looked sharp to me. “Was there an old one?”

“Jenny Percy!” Much said, pleased with himself.

Rob smiled. “Of a band with three actual boys, why is it that all the maids lust after the fake one?”

That Tuesday Thingy #13: A Teaser from Stormdancer Jay Kristoff + Top Ten Characters I’d Like To Switch Places With For 24 Hours

Teaser Tuesday:

Teasers from the book I am reading.

Stormdancer (The Lotus War #1)

Expected publication: September 18th 2012 by Thomas Dunne Books
“That was very brave, Lady."

Yukiko stared, her tongue somewhere in her sandals.

Gods, he's gorgeous . . .

The samurai pulled off his gauntlet and ran his thumb across the now silent blades of his sword, leaving behind a thin smear of red on the patterned steel.

He wiped the blood on his golden tabard, then slid the katana into its enameled sheath with the sound of a cicada's wings.

“Once drawn, it must taste blood."

Top Ten Characters I’d Like To Switch Places With For 24 Hours

Hah! Let me warn you that this list would be filled with characters who have boyfriends,
fiancés, and/or husbands that are INSANELY hot! Twenty four hours with their men would simply not be enough! Upon reading about these men, I immediately fell fictionally in love with them because they are so devoted to their women. Yes, they can be somewhat of an ass at times, nevertheless, despite the challenges that the story (or the author?) presented them with, they remained supportive, loving, and loyal to their women.

Through To You (ARC)
“Cam, I’ve missed you . . .”
Viv?
My skin tingles when we touch; I can tell she feels it too. It has to be her . . . isn’t it? I don’t want to open my eyes. I want to lay my lips on the soft skin beneath her wrist, trace up her arm to her mouth and melt into a never-ending kiss.
But she pulls me forward.
“Come back,” she whispers.
I open my eyes and she isn’t Viv.

Tiger's Destiny (The Tiger Saga #4)
Expected publication: September 4th 2012 by Splinter
“May I join you?” I asked softly.
He didn’t bother opening his eyes. “If you like.” The moon in the dark sky looked like a giant white plate dipping its edge into the ocean. We sat quietly for a while, and I closed my eyes too and listened to him hum along in harmony with the music.
“You haven’t played your guitar in a while. I miss it,” I said when the song was finished.
Ren turned away. “I fear there is no music left in me.”

Top Ten Fantasy Books I Can't Wait to Get My Hands On

Fantasy books are my weakness. Any story that takes place in another world, preferably a world where magic and wizardry exist, and those rooted in myths and legends, is a MUST READ for me. I especially love those fantasy books that have royalty, dragons, and sword fighting. I also like those with pirate themes, but good pirate books are hard to find.

So for those of you who are interested, I have made a list of the fantasy books that are yet to be released. I am looking forward to the release of these books, especially Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, which will be out in about a month!

So, here's my list, in no particular order...

That Tuesday Thingy #9: A Teaser from My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick + Top Ten Reads For People Who Like Kristin Cashore's Books

Teaser Tuesday:

Teasers from the book I am reading.
hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading

My Life Next Door
George gives me his sunniest smile. “No. He useta have a reg’lar tarantula named Agnes, but she”—his voice drops mournfully—“died.”
“I’m sure she’s in tarantula heaven now,” I assure him hastily, shuddering to think what that might look like.
Mrs. Garrett’s van pulls in behind the motorcycle, disgorging what I assume are Duff and Andy, both red-faced and windblown. Judging by their life jackets, they’ve been at sailing camp.
George and Harry, my loyal fans, rave to their mother about my accomplishments, while Patsy immediately bursts into tears, points an accusing finger at her mother, and wails, “Boob.”
“It was her first word.” Mrs. Garrett takes her from me, heedless of Patsy’s damp swimsuit. “There’s one for the baby book.”

Top Ten Reads For People Who Like Kristin Cashore's Books

I read Graceling and Fire A LONG TIME AGO, and since then, I became a fan of books that are set in a different world. I love fantasy books, especially those that have princes and princesses, monsters and dragons, elves and goblins, and so on and so forth. Those are the books that render me useless and unproductive until I finish them.

With that, below is a list of my top ten fantasy books that are MORE OR LESS similar to Kristin Cashore's books.

Grasping at Eternity
I placed my hand in his. Happy trumpets kept blaring, and his touch sent surges of electricity through me again. Worrying he felt my reaction, I pulled away and stuck my hands in my coat. He leaned in toward me, and his lips parted. A white cloud from his breath filled the inches of space between us. His lips looked so kissable that my mouth watered.
“Maryah, are you all right?”
I swallowed then licked my lips, hoping to erase the magnetic pull that wanted his mouth against mine. “Yes. Just nervous.”

Defiance (ARC)
by C.J. Redwine
I’m not going to kiss her. That would be . . . I don’t know what that would be. I can’t seem to think straight. All I see is Rachel, filling up my empty spaces and making me into more than I ever could be on my own.
Maybe this is what family does for each other. She’s my family now. Which is why, even as I lean toward her, unable to tear my gaze away from the softness of her mouth, I tell myself I’m not going to kiss her.
She steps toward me, face upturned. I lean in.
Behind us, someone clears his throat.
